Are You Living for the Moment or for Eternity?

Hey guys,

I hope your week is off to a great start. Last week, I had a quite moment and started asking myself some serious questions - God forbid, if I died today, would I have any regrets? Have I achieved most of my goals? Have I loved my family and friends the way that I'm supposed to? Have I taken time out of my busy schedule to help someone in need? Would God say to me, 'well done thy good and faithful servant"? Everyone should ask themselves these questions because you just never know which day will be your last.

Lately, I have heard so many stories of young people that have died from cancer, car accidents, etc. It is so heartbreaking. A young man that I went to college with passed way this weekend from leukemia. I also heard of a story of a young lady in Zambia that had a bridal shower last week and was scheduled to get married this Saturday, she passed away in a bus accident. How does one even begin to deal with such pain and loss? A parent should never have to bury their kids but this seems to be the norm these days.

There's a verse in the bible that says, "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain" Philippians 1:21. As Christians, we believe that death is not the end but the beginning. When you ask God to forgive you of all your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then you are going to heaven. Therefore, you can't really be afraid of death unless you don't know where you are going. The way we live our lives on earth is supposed to be preparation for eternity. We spend so much time investing in the flesh that will die and fade, yet neglect our souls that will live for eternity. If you died today, do you know where you will spend eternity?

I have a few personal tips that I live by each day:

  • Everyday you wake up, take a moment to pray and ask God to command his angels charge over you.
  • Take time to tell your loved ones that you love them.
  • Take time to forgive everyone that has wronged you - you can't expect God to forgive you for your sins when you are not able to forgive someone else for their wrongdoings.
  • Don't worry about anything, be thankful in everything and pray about everything.
